We kicked off a jam-packed fall this past weekend with Brittni and Cody’s nuptials at The Barn at Shady Lane. It was a picture-perfect day … and felt like fall weather had FINALLY arrived! Handley McCrory from Handley Breaux Designs made sure the day went off without a hitch, and we loved how the photos turned out! Here’s a few favorites from the big day …

Emily and Evan celebrated their nuptials on a gorgeous fall day a few weekends ago … and we were so happy to document it! They said their “I Do’s” at Church of the Highland’s Chapel, and then headed downtown for an intimate reception at the Florentine Building. Before making it to the reception, we had to make a quick stop at Morris Avenue to get some photos with Emily’s father’s 442 Cutlass! Here’s a few favorites from the big day …

We kicked off a beautiful November with Catherine and Daniel’s big day this past weekend! After getting ready at the bride’s parent’s house in Mountain brook … including portraits in the backyard with Catherine and her girls … it was off to the Barn at Shady Lane for a gorgeous ceremony and reception! Many thanks to the newlyweds for having us, and a big thanks to the ladies from Mariee Ami for making the day go so smoothly!

Our pretty fall weather continued this past weekend for Madeline and Nick’s beautiful wedding at Aldridge Gardens. There was something extra special about Saturday’s events, as the father of the bride was also an old professor of mine from Samford. The newlyweds embraced the fall colors of Aldridge, using pumpkins as part of their centerpieces … and including some delicious pecan pies for the groom’s cake. They held the intimate ceremony in the garden pavilion, before dancing the night away under the stars! It was a picture-perfect day, and we felt blessed to be part! As we get the full proof set finished, here’s a few early favorites …

It’s always exciting when your clients choose a private, intimate location for their nuptials. When Rosalie described the private horse farm where her and fiance Blake would be saying their “I Do’s”, we were SO ready for the big day to get here. The Six Swings Farm in Indian Springs didn’t disappoint … and a beautiful location paired with a wonderful fall day made for some great picture taking weather! Here’s a few favorites from the big day!

We wrapped up a very busy fall schedule of portraits and weddings this past weekend with Sara and Ray’s beautiful engagement session at Avondale Park, downtown Birmingham, and Railroad Park. These to fit so well together, and make a photographer’s job easier than ever! We can’t wait for their wedding at the Sonnet House next spring … but here’s a few favorites in the meantime …

Kelsey and Patrick are one of those couples that make our job a breeze. Laid-back, crazy in love, and willing to put up with our high-maintenance photographer demands. :-) They got ready for the big day at the elegant Tutwiler Hotel downtown, before taking a walk over to their ceremony site at the Cathedral Church of the Advent. After saying “I Do”, it was off to The Florentine Building for a beautiful reception with food provided by Corretti Catering! At the end of the night, the couple left thru a gauntlet of Auburn pompoms … and took the two block walk to their wedding night hotel at The Redmont Hotel. It was the perfect end, to a wonderful day … and we were so grateful to be part! Here’s a few favorites from beginning to end!

Rebekah and William were a wonderful couple to wrap up our 2016 with. They said their “I Do’s” on an oddly warm day for December … but we weren’t complaining since it allowed us some outside time for photos. We always love the opportunity to shoot a wedding at the historic Avondale United Methodist Church. Its sanctuary is gorgeous … especially when its a decked out for Christmas! After their vows, the newlyweds traveled a couple blocks to the Avon Theater for a night of dinner and dancing. The always-entertaining Schmohawks provided the music, and Savoie Catering supplied the delicious dinner. To top it off, the talented folks at HotHouse Design Studio handled all the florals … providing some gorgeous accents to Rebekah and William’s big day! Here’s a few favorites from our 2016 finale …

We couldn’t have asked for a better way to kick of our 2017 weddings than with Katie and Julian’s gorgeous winter wedding. We’re using the term “winter” lightly, of course, since it was in the mid-70’s for their downtown Birmingham nuptials this past weekend. The newlyweds celebrated the big day at B&A Warehouse, with a gorgeous candlelit ceremony and reception. We also took full advantage of the good weather, sneaking across the street to Railroad Park for some portraits with the happy couple and their bridal party! Here’s a few favorites from Katie and Julian’s big day …

Our new journey

For the past decade, we’ve been blessed to document some wonderful moments in our clients’ lives. From proposals on one knee, to saying “I Do” at the alter …. from that first signs of a baby bump, to the smash cake on a first birthday … we’re so grateful to those who’ve entrusted us to document such precious moments. When we started our little studio in 2005, we never would have imagined it evolving into the wonderful journey that it has become.

The past few years have seen a number of moments happen in our personal lives as well. We’ve welcomed two wonderful children in Grey and Graham to our family, and have never felt more blessed than we do right now. That being said, over the next few months Stacey and I will take on one of our biggest challenges yet. After much prayer and late night discussion, we’ve decided to take on a new adventure and move our family to Colorado. To be honest, it’s been a dream of ours for some time now … and as our kiddos get older, we’ve decided now is the best time to make the trek to the Rockies.

Of course, Simple Color’s future is very much tied to our family’s future. So it’s difficult to announce the studio will be ceasing coverage in Alabama in the coming months as we make our transition to Colorado.

We are SO very grateful for each and every one of our clients, since we surely wouldn’t be on this adventure to begin with if it wasn’t for you. We feel blessed beyond words to have met so many wonderful people during our work.

While Simple Color may be saying goodbye to Alabama, we cant wait to see what’s in store for our little studio as we head west in 2017.

P.S. … If you’re a current wedding, Colorbooth or portrait client of ours, you should have received a detailed email by now. If you haven’t received it, don’ hesitate to contact us!!!

We were submitting some print orders today, and realize we never had a chance to show off Rebekah’s bridal session that we photographed a few weeks before her and William’s big day! We shot these at a private home of Shades Crest, and hit some gorgeous golden sunset light at JUST the right moment! Here’s a few favorites!

Dorsey & Geoff

I’ve been off on hiatus for the past month as Stacey, our kiddos, and I transitioned from our Birmingham base to our new home in Colorado. It’s been a LONG couple of weeks, so I’m all-too-ready to get back to editing and posting some of the gorgeous weddings we’ve shot recently. Dorsey and Geoff’s big day at the Donnelly House in Birmingham didn’t exactly go according to plan. The first big rain of the spring decided to come in and stay for the majority of the day, forcing everyone to readjust photo and ceremony plans. The newlyweds handled it like champs, however, and were plenty happy just to be getting married! We’ve been so blessed to get to know the Westerman family over the past few years, including photographing Dorsey’s sister Kelsey’s wedding earlier this year! As we get settled into the Rockies, I wanted to share few favorites from the big day down South …

Megan and Whit are the definition of my ideal couple. Super-laid back, patient with pesky photographers, and willing to take the time for some great photos! Their Birmingham wedding had picture-perfect spring weather, which allowed us some wonderful opportunities for photos! These two tied the knot at Canterbury United Methodist Church in Mountain Brook, before heading downtown for a night of dinner and dancing at Bridgestreet Gallery and Loft! We were so grateful to be part of our second Bowers wedding seven years after Megan’s sister Courtney tied the knot in 2010! Here’s a few favorites from their walk down the aisle …

Kelsey and Austin have two of the most infectious smiles we’ve ever photographed. Seriously though, we spend a lot of time watching (stalking) our couples on the wedding day, and these two never stopped smiling! It was so obvious from my first meeting with them … then during their engagement session … and on to the wedding day … that these two are madly in love with each other. This was a “no posing required” kind of wedding, since 99% of the time we could just sit back and let them interact naturally with each other! They spent their wedding weekend at the gorgeous Shoal Creek outside of Birmingham. It was a picture-perfect weekend for photos … despite some threatening rain … and we couldn’t have been happier with the results! Here’s a look back at Kelsey and Austin’s big day …
