Meridith & Will

It’s always a privilege when a sister or sibling of one of our past couples asks us to document their wedding as well. So we feel doubly-honored that Meridith is the third sister alongside Stephanie and Evelyn to ask us to be part of their big day. All of these wedding, incidentally … will happen in 2014! We shot Evelyn’s wedding this spring, Stephanie’s engagements earlier this summer, and it was Meridith’s turn this past week for some time in the spotlight! Here’s a few favorites from her and Will’s session downtown at Morris Avenue and The Club, as well as a few portraits at Meridith’s parents’ home in Inverness …

Sarah & Paul

Rain clouds made for a little bit of an adventure for Sarah and Paul’s wedding this past weekend at the Sonnet House… but we couldn’t have asked for a better couple to splash through puddles and stand out in a drizzle for portraits! These two looked right past the grey clouds, smiled throughout their whole day and enjoyed a wonderful evening with their family and friends! We’re absolutely in love with the choices for the bridals party attire, and Corey Daniel put together some stunning arrangements, as always! Here’s a few faves from the big day …

Melanie and Jason were such an easy going couple to work with … even when the thunderheads in the distance were rumbling on their way to Sweet Apple Farm out in Pell City. Believe it or not, the newlyweds didn’t have to dodge a single sprinkle, and we wound up being able to shoot all around the property for their portraits! These two privately tied the knot a few months ago … taking away some of the stress and nerves of the wedding day … and leaving them to enjoy a great evening with family and friends! Here’s a few favorites from their big day!

Andrea and Clay’s wedding day was the first time it’s REALLY felt like Fall this season. Ok, granted it was still in the 80s for their big day … but after a HOT season of weddings, we couldn’t have asked for better weather on Saturday! The newlyweds said their vows at Reid Chapel at Samford University, shot some portraits around campus, and then headed up the hill to The Club for a wonderful evening reception in the ballroom. The evening’s decor was so elegant, and you can never go wrong with dinner by candlelight! After dinner it was time for some dancing and cake by Barb’s Cakes. As the guests headed outside to bid farewell to the newly-minted couple, they got to take a delicious Pie Lab mini-pie on their way! Here’s a few favorites from Clay and Andrea’s big day!

The Israel family is back on the blog with Simple Color, and we couldn’t be more excited to show off their little addition … Harrison. Some crazy schedules on our end of over the past few months meant we actually shot the little man’s portraits over two different sessions, and he was such a trooper both times! The good news for this little guy? He’s got to big sisters doting and loving all over him. Needless to say, he’ll have plenty of babysitters growing up …

A busy couple of weeks here at Simple Color has kept us from getting Melissa and Robert’s engagement session up on the blog for WAY too long! Despite some threatening rain, we were able to shoot without a single drop getting in the way… making stops at Birmingham Botanical Gardens and Oak Mountain State Park. We even lucked out and caught a bit of sunset in between the clouds at just the right time! Here’s a few favs from their session …

Katie & Caleb

There are some weddings where it’s obvious that the whole family is pitching in to help and make the day perfect. Katie and Caleb’s farm was the perfect example. From aunts to cousins to parents to the bridal party, from the moment we arrived everyone was doing their part to build, decorate, and cook up the perfect nuptials for these two awesome people. The ceremony and reception were both held on the groom’s family farm in Holly Pond, Ala., and EVERY part of this wedding was DIY in some way. The groom, his father and his father-in-law-to-be built the “chapel” in the field, as well as multiple parts of the reception decor … such as a gorgeous mason jar chandelier in the barn. Katie’s mom put her flowers together, and also made her wedding cake … which turned out stunning! Despite some gusty winds, the whole event came together perfectly, and Katie and Caleb were an absolute “breeze” (Ok, I had to) to work with! Here’s a few favorites from their big day …

And yes, what’s a rustic wedding reception without a little barn-side Colorbooth action?

We kicked off a WARM fall weekend on Friday with Brittany and Will’s engagement session around Birmingham. We made stops at Oak Mountain State Park, the Botanical Gardens, Mountain Brook and the overlook at The Club. It’s always exciting to see the trees starting to change for Fall … and while it took some hunting, we were able to find some pops of color during their session! Here’s a few favorites!

I only first met Michelle and Jeff in person the day of their session … but they were so easy-going, it made my job ridiculously easy! With both of them being from Colorado, it was great being able to talk about hockey and cooler weather as well! :-) We shot on campus at the University of Alabama, and the Riverwalk … and we’re really excited with how the images are turning out!

Julie & Jarred

It was just “a little” chilly for Julie and Jarred’s big day this past Saturday. (OK, it was ALOT chilly!) But thankfully, these two were able to grin and bear it for a few minutes of portraits around Julie’s family property. The ceremony was held at Julie’s home church, Pleasant Hill United Methodist in Springville, and was followed up by a wonderful evening reception at her father’s converted workshop. We were blown away with how pretty the reception looked in a building that Julie’s father built! It glowed with with chandeliers and candlelight, and provided the perfect backdrop for their celebration. And we can’t stop without saying a big “thank you” to our past bride Joy, who sent Julie our way months ago! Here’s a few favorites from Julie and Jarred’s fall nuptials ….

Candace and Brandon wrapped up what will likely be our final engagement session of 2014, and we did it in style with some wonderful fall colors at Oak Mountain State Park. It seems like the trees held on alot longer this year, which meant super-bright reds, oranges and yellows for their session this past weekend! Here’s a few favs from their session …

The “McKinney trifecta” was completed this past weekend, with Meridith and Will tying the knot in a gorgeous evening ceremony at Highlands United Methodist Church. It’s been such an honor to get to know the entire McKinney family this year, and we feel blessed that they asked us to document Evelyn’s, Stephanie’s, and now Meridith’s nuptials! After the ceremony, we traveled over the mountain to the Birmingham Country Club, for a night of dinner and dancing … with entertainment courtesy of the Craig Duncan Orchestra. A big congrats to the McKinney parents for helping to put together three picture-perfect wedding days for their daughters! While we finish up the full set of proofs, here’s a little preview of Meridith and Will’s big day …

Rachel & Jay

I knew we were going to have a amazing day of shooting Saturday the moment I sat down with Rachel and Jay back during their initial consult. Rachel had been in front of our camera before at her sister Lindsey’s wedding back in 2012 … and we couldn’t have been happier that she asked Stacey and I to document her day as well. Jay and I hit it off immediately, with our mutual support for the Michigan Wolverines and love of photography. The newlyweds said their vows at Rachel’s home church, Concord Baptist, in Crossville, Ala. Then it was off to their tented reception on a gorgeous fall evening. As she did for Lindsey’s wedding, the talented Brooke Kearbey from BKwed took care of the coordination and florals for Rachel and Jay’s nuptials … and everything looked amazing! As the newly minted Sowers head to North Carlolina for some honeymooning, we wanted to share a few favorites from their day …

The time I get to spend with our couples during engagement sessions usually winds up including some of my favorite moments that we spend together throughout the entire wedding process. Engagements are a great time to get to know our clients, and also let them have some time in front of the camera before the big day. It’s a perfect time to shake off some of the pre-game jitters and get comfortable having your portraits made! Here’s a few favorites from a wonderful group of 2014 clients …

Some of our favorite candid moments on any given wedding day come during the getting ready time. There’s so much excitement and nervous anticipation in the room … folks can’t help but laugh and enjoy the minutes leading up to the ceremony. Then there’s the time our couples get to spend with their bridal parties on the big day … between inside jokes and lifelong friendships … it makes for some great images. Here’s some of our favorite getting ready and bridal party portraits from 2014 …

2014 was full of some great wedding receptions … and there’s nothing more fun to photograph than a crazy fun party! We were blessed this season with couples who loved to dance and didn’t shy away from the dance floor, making for some great candids of them getting down to the music! Needless to say, we hope 2015 is full of just as many fun-filled celebrations!

Happy New Year!
